After breakfast at your hotel in Moshi, depart for Umbwe Gate. The trail is steep and rapidly gains altitude. After 4–5 hours of hiking, arrive at Umbwe Camp (2,900m).

Trek ~5 hours with steep ascents and descents to reach Barranco Camp, nestled in the scenic moorland.

Crucial acclimatization day. 4–5 hours to Karanga Camp (3,995m) using “climb high, sleep low” strategy.

The best time for this climb is during the dry season from June to October when weather conditions are optimal. However, the mountain can be climbed year-round with proper preparation. January-March is also a good time with warmer temperatures.
Pack light, neutral-colored clothing (khaki, beige), a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, insect repellent, comfortable walking shoes, binoculars, and a camera. A light jacket is recommended for early morning and evening game drives. For climbing, bring warm layers, waterproof outer shell, thermal underwear, hiking boots, gaiters, gloves, and a headlamp.
This climb is recommended for experienced hikers with good physical fitness due to its challenging terrain and rapid altitude gain.
