About This Safari

An accelerated 3-day trekking experience along the Momella Route for experienced trekkers

Our 3 Days Mount Meru Fast Trek offers an accelerated route to the summit of Tanzania's second highest peak. This condensed itinerary is designed for experienced trekkers with limited time who want to summit Mount Meru without the standard 4-day schedule.

Unlike the standard 4-day route, this fast option skips the overnight at Miriakamba Hut on Day 3, instead descending directly from Socialist Peak back to Momella Gate. This creates a very long and challenging final day (14-16 hours), but allows you to complete the trek in just 3 days. Our expert guides ensure your safety while navigating this accelerated schedule, though we strongly recommend this option only for those with prior high-altitude experience and excellent physical fitness.

Momella Gate to Miriakamba Hut

Forest & Grassland Trek

After early morning pickup from your Arusha hotel, travel to Momella Gate (1,500 m) in Arusha National Park. Begin your trek through the lush montane forest, where you'll encounter giraffes, buffalo, and elephants grazing near the trail. As you ascend, the landscape transitions to grassland with panoramic views of the park. Your experienced guide will share insights about the mountain's geology and the local Maasai culture. Arrive at Miriakamba Hut (2,514 m) in the afternoon, settle in, and enjoy a hot meal while watching the sunset over Kilimanjaro. This first day is designed for gentle acclimatization with a moderate 1,000m elevation gain.

Miriakamba Hut to Saddle Hut

Moorland Ascent

Begin your day with a hearty breakfast before ascending through montane forest into the moorland zone. The trail becomes steeper as you approach the saddle between Mount Meru's two peaks. Along the way, you'll pass through heather and giant lobelia plants, with increasingly spectacular views of Kilimanjaro. Your guide will explain the unique ecology of this transition zone and point out rare bird species. Arrive at Saddle Hut (3,570 m) by early afternoon, giving you ample time to rest and acclimatize. In the afternoon, embark on an optional acclimatization hike to Little Meru (3,820 m), which significantly increases your chances of summiting successfully. Return to Saddle Hut for dinner and an early night, as you'll begin your summit push at midnight.

Summit Day: Saddle Hut to Socialist Peak to Momella Gate

The Long Descent

Your summit attempt begins at midnight with a hot drink and light snack. Begin the steep climb up the rocky ridge toward Rhino Point (3,800 m), where you'll take a brief rest. Continue along the exposed ridge to Cobra Point (4,350 m), where the terrain becomes more technical. The final push to Socialist Peak (4,566 m) is challenging but rewarding, with breathtaking views as the sun rises over Kilimanjaro and the Meru Crater. Celebrate at the summit with photos before beginning your descent. Unlike the standard route, you'll descend directly to Momella Gate (1,500 m) without stopping at Miriakamba Hut, making this a very long and tiring day (14-16 hours total). Arrive at Momella Gate by late afternoon, where you'll receive your summit certificate. Transfer back to Arusha for a well-deserved rest at your hotel, concluding your accelerated Mount Meru adventure.
