Day 1: Marangu Gate to Mandara Huts

After breakfast at your hotel in Moshi, depart for Marangu Gate, the official starting point of the Marangu Route. Begin your ascent through the lush rainforest zone, home to colobus monkeys, birds, and exotic plants. After 3-4 hours of hiking, arrive at Mandara Huts (2,700m). Dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Mandara Huts to Horombo Huts

Continue your ascent through heath and moorland zones with giant lobelias and senecios. Spectacular views of Mount Meru await. Trek 5-6 hours to Horombo Huts (3,700m). Dinner and overnight at Horombo Huts.

Day 3: Horombo Huts to Kibo Huts

Enter the alpine desert zone. Trek for 4-5 hours through barren landscapes to reach Kibo Huts (4,700m). This is an acclimatization day. Dinner and overnight at Kibo Huts.

Day 4: Kibo Huts to Summit to Horombo Huts

Wake at midnight for your summit attempt. Hike 4-6 hours to Stella Point and Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa. Celebrate, then descend back to Horombo Huts. Dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Horombo Huts to Marangu Gate

What is the best time to climb via Marangu Route?

The best time for this climb is during the dry season from June to October when weather conditions are optimal. However, the mountain can be climbed year-round with proper preparation. January-March is also a good time with warmer temperatures.

What should I pack for this climb?

Pack light, neutral-colored clothing (khaki, beige), a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, insect repellent, comfortable walking shoes, binoculars, and a camera. A light jacket is recommended for early morning and evening game drives. For climbing, bring warm layers, waterproof outer shell, thermal underwear, hiking boots, gaiters, gloves, and a headlamp.

Is this climb suitable for children?

Yes, this climb is suitable for children aged 10 and above. Children under 10 may find the long climbs and high altitude challenging. Please inform us in advance if traveling with young children so we can make necessary arrangements.
